The two formats

Tajima DST
A Tajima stitch format used in many commercial embroidery workflows. Standard DST stores stitch movements and colour-change commands, but not an original thread palette. Check your machine manual for support.
.JEF · JANOME, ELNA
Janome JEF
Janome and Elna machines read JEF. It carries thread colours drawn from Janome's own thread chart, along with the hoop the design was built for.
What to watch for
Check your Janome hoop and file settings
If a JEF design is absent from your machine's file list, check the supported format, transfer instructions and selected hoop. The table compares stitch dimensions with common rectangles; it does not confirm compatibility with your model or account for every machine-specific limit.
The palette is ours, and it travels with the file
DST carries no thread information at all. We read the colour stops, treat each run between them as a block, and assign a colour so the blocks are distinguishable. Because JEF does store colours, that palette is written into the file — the machine will show distinct colours rather than leaving everything one shade. Treat it as a placeholder and set your real threads at the machine.
Nothing is re-drawn
HoopFile translates the existing stitch plan without digitising the artwork again. Target-format limits can split long movements or change trim commands, so the downloaded file can have a different stitch count. The preview statistics describe the source file.
