An EXP holds the stitching and nothing else — no colours, no name, no thumbnail. If yours came off a Bernina there was a second file beside it holding the colourway, and this preview cannot see it. What it can tell you is everything about the stitching itself: the path, the number of thread changes, the stitch count and the finished size.

Melco EXP
Melco and Bernina machines read EXP. Like DST it stores movement only; colours travel beside it in a separate INF file, so a converted EXP arrives uncoloured.
What to watch for
The colours you see are ours, and there may be a file that has the real ones
A bare EXP carries no thread information. If this came from a Bernina USB stick, look for a .inf file with the same name in the same folder — the colour list is in there and it opens in any text editor. The palette drawn here is assigned by us so you can tell the blocks apart.
Thread changes are still visible
Even without colours, the file records where the machine stops for a thread change. The block count above is real information: it tells you how many threads the design needs, which is what you actually need to know before starting.
What a preview cannot show you
This is the stitch path, not the finished embroidery — no pull, no density in the hand, no verdict on whether small detail will hold at this size.
