Convert PES to EXP
Read the first note before you download this one. On a Melco machine an .exp is the whole design and this conversion gives you everything you need. On a Bernina it is one of three files the machine expects, and we can only produce one of them — the design will stitch, but it will arrive without the colours you can currently see in your PES.

The two formats
Brother PES
Brother's own format, used across Baby Lock and Bernina Deco machines. It carries thread colours and a design thumbnail, so a converted file arrives with its palette already set.
Melco EXP
Melco and Bernina machines read EXP. Like DST it stores movement only; colours travel beside it in a separate INF file, so a converted EXP arrives uncoloured.
What to watch for
On a Bernina, this file is incomplete — and we cannot complete it
A Bernina USB design normally includes three files: the .exp stitch file, a .inf colour list and a .bmp thumbnail. HoopFile creates the .exp file only. The stitches and colour stops remain in place, but the machine will not know which thread belongs to each block, so keep the thread order shown in the preview.
On a Melco machine there is nothing to worry about
Commercial Melco EXP is a stitch-only format by design — it never carried colours, and machines running it expect the operator to set the thread order. This file is complete for that use.
Your PES colours are still visible here
The palette shown above was read out of your PES. It cannot be written into the EXP, but it is correct on screen, which makes this page a usable reference while you set threads at the machine.
