Convert EXP to PES
Convert a standalone EXP stitch design into PES for a compatible Brother or Baby Lock machine. EXP has no embedded thread palette, so the preview and PES download use assigned colours. Keep any original companion files or thread chart to set the intended shades.

The two formats
.EXP · MELCO, BERNINA
Melco EXP
Melco and Bernina machines read EXP. Like DST it stores movement only; colours travel beside it in a separate INF file, so a converted EXP arrives uncoloured.
.PES · BROTHER, BABY LOCK
Brother PES
A Brother embroidery format also used by compatible Baby Lock and some other machines. Versions and colour information vary. A readable preview or conversion does not guarantee that your machine accepts the file; check its version and embroidery-area limits.
What to watch for
Look for a .inf file next to your .exp
A Bernina USB design is normally three files with the same name: the .exp holding the stitches, a .inf holding the thread colours, and a .bmp thumbnail. We read the .exp only. If you still have the original folder, open the complete design in compatible embroidery software to inspect its thread list. If all you were given was the .exp, the colours are not recoverable from the file and the palette we show is ours.
Check PES compatibility with your model
HoopFile exports PES version 1 for compatibility with older workflows. Compatibility still depends on the model, supported hoop size and transfer method. Check your machine manual and test the converted file before a production run.
A readable file is not a compatibility guarantee
If a particular EXP fails to open, it may be damaged or use a variation the converter does not support. Keep the original and check it in the software used to create it. After conversion, verify the PES on the destination machine before production.
