Convert EXP to DST
Translate an EXP stitch file into DST for a machine or production workflow that requests Tajima-format data. Neither standalone file carries a thread-colour palette. Check movement limits, the change sequence and the separate colour information that may have accompanied your original EXP.

The two formats
.EXP · MELCO, BERNINA
Melco EXP
Melco and Bernina machines read EXP. Like DST it stores movement only; colours travel beside it in a separate INF file, so a converted EXP arrives uncoloured.
.DST · TAJIMA
Tajima DST
Written for Tajima commercial machines and read by nearly everything since. It stores stitch movements only — no thread colours at all, which is why a palette is assigned rather than read.
What to watch for
Companion colour files are not read
This tool uploads the .exp only. A BERNINA .inf or .bmp beside it is not read. Keep the complete original design folder and use compatible embroidery software to inspect its colour sequence.
DST can split longer movements
The maximum movement is 12.1 mm per axis in one DST record. Longer EXP stitches or jumps may become several records; an increased output count does not by itself mean the artwork was re-digitised.
Check stops and trims before production
EXP and DST encode machine commands differently. Confirm the downloaded change sequence and trim settings on the target machine; the coloured source preview is not a simulation of that machine's behaviour.
