Convert U01 to DST
Convert a Barudan U01 design to DST for a workflow that accepts Tajima-style stitch data. Both formats lack an RGB thread palette, but they do not encode needle changes in the same way. Keep the original needle-to-thread plan and check the change sequence on the destination machine.

The two formats
Barudan U01
Barudan commercial machines read U01. It uses needle-selection commands rather than a thread-colour palette. Check needle assignments against the threads loaded on your machine.
Tajima DST
Written for Tajima commercial machines and read by nearly everything since. It stores stitch movements only — no thread colours at all, which is why a palette is assigned rather than read.
What to watch for
Needle assignments do not transfer to DST
U01 stores needle-selection commands. DST uses change commands without carrying those original needle assignments. The receiving operator must configure the thread sequence.
Preview colours are a visual aid
The source has no RGB colour chart. Coloured blocks show the stitching sequence, not the intended shades or the number of distinct spools you need.
Check DST movement and trim limits
Long movements may be split to meet DST's 12.1 mm per-axis record limit. Inspect the converted jumps, changes and trims on the target machine and test a sample before running the full job.
