Convert JEF to PES
Convert a Janome or Elna JEF design to PES for a compatible Brother or Baby Lock machine. HoopFile translates the stitch plan and maps colours to the PES palette. The shades and hoop settings can differ between the two formats, so check them before stitching.

The two formats
.JEF · JANOME, ELNA
Janome JEF
Janome and Elna machines read JEF. It carries thread colours drawn from Janome's own thread chart, along with the hoop the design was built for.
.PES · BROTHER, BABY LOCK
Brother PES
A Brother embroidery format also used by compatible Baby Lock and some other machines. Versions and colour information vary. A readable preview or conversion does not guarantee that your machine accepts the file; check its version and embroidery-area limits.
What to watch for
Check the thread colours after conversion
PES uses a fixed thread palette in HoopFile's output. Source colours are mapped to the nearest available entry and may shift in shade. Check the original thread chart and the machine's colour assignments before stitching.
Check PES compatibility with your model
HoopFile exports PES version 1 for compatibility with older workflows. Compatibility still depends on the model, supported hoop size and transfer method. Check your machine manual and test the converted file before a production run.
Hoop sizes do not translate between brands
A JEF was built for a Janome hoop, and Janome, Brother and Baby Lock do not use the same hoop dimensions. A design that filled a Janome hoop comfortably may not clear the nearest Brother one. The table above measures the design itself against common hoop sizes — check it before you assume a design that always worked will keep working.
