The two formats

Brother PES
A Brother embroidery format also used by compatible Baby Lock and some other machines. Versions and colour information vary. A readable preview or conversion does not guarantee that your machine accepts the file; check its version and embroidery-area limits.
.VP3 · HUSQVARNA VIKING, PFAFF
Husqvarna VP3
The current Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff format. It carries thread colours, and unlike the older HUS it can hold larger designs.
What to watch for
VP3 or HUS — check which one your machine reads
Check the supported formats in your machine manual before choosing VP3. A machine that accepts HUS does not necessarily accept VP3. HoopFile reads HUS but does not export it.
Colours follow the source file
VP3 can store RGB thread colours, so it does not require mapping them to a fixed manufacturer palette. HoopFile uses the colour values read from the source file. Screen colours are a guide, not a guarantee of the shade of physical thread.
Hoop sizes differ between brands
A design built for a Brother hoop may not sit comfortably in the nearest Viking or Pfaff one. The table above measures the design itself; check it against the hoop you actually own rather than assuming the sizes correspond.
