Convert XXX to JEF

Move an XXX embroidery design into a Janome or Elna JEF workflow. The downloaded file uses Janome thread-palette entries rather than the RGB colours stored in XXX. Inspect the shades and design dimensions before copying it to a compatible machine.

Size comparison only, not a machine-compatibility check. Confirm the supported embroidery area in your machine manual.

The two formats

.XXX · SINGER XL, COMPUCON

Singer XXX

Singer and Compucon machines read XXX. It stores thread colours alongside the stitches.

.JEF · JANOME, ELNA

Janome JEF

Janome and Elna machines read JEF. It carries thread colours drawn from Janome's own thread chart, along with the hoop the design was built for.

What to watch for

The palette changes

The converter selects nearby JEF palette entries for source RGB colours. It cannot choose physical threads or guarantee that similar shades remain distinguishable. Compare with the original chart.

Check the JEF on the destination model

The machine's supported embroidery area, file limits and transfer method still apply. A successful download does not establish that a Singer-sized design fits a Janome hoop.

Keep the original XXX for reference

The source preview describes the uploaded file, not every command in the export. Open the downloaded JEF in compatible software to check its colour order and stitch plan before a test stitch-out.
